FAQ’s

What is a Mini Bernese Mountain Dog?

A Mini Bernese is a designer breed. It is the combination of a full Bernese Mountain Dog and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are bred to produce a smaller version of the full Bernese, while maintaining it’s sweet personality and physical characteristics.

Are Mini Mountain Puppies registered with AKC?

No, our puppies are not registered with AKC. The American Kennel Club does not yet recognize the Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog as a pure breed.

Do Mini Bernese Mountain Dogs shed?

Yes, they shed. They shed at a moderate level, much less than a pure Bernese Mountain Dog.

How big is an adult Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog?

An adult Mini Bernese is on average 40-50 lbs, although on occasion will remain closer to 35 lbs. They are consistently less than half of the size of a full Bernese, whose average weight is 80-100 lbs, sometimes up to a whopping 120 lbs.

Are Miniature Bernese Mountain Dogs high energy dogs?

No! They are relatively lazy, actually. They are playful and love their walks and exercise time, but they don’t need nearly as much energy release as many dog breeds do. They love their naps!

Do you deliver anywhere in the US?

Yes, I deliver anywhere in the US except for Hawaii.

How much do you charge for a puppy?

Please see my “Available Puppies” page for pricing.

Do you require new owners to spay/neuter their new puppies?

No, but I do have a strict no-breeding policy. I sell my dogs only as pets.

How early can I take a puppy home?

The earliest a puppy can go to their new home is 8 weeks of age. I am more than willing to keep a puppy for longer than that— whatever is best for their new families.

What kind of activities do you do for the puppies’ development?

Please see the “Puppy Info” section of my site for more information about my health policies, early neurological stimulation, socialization, and enrichment.

Are these puppies raised around children?

Yes! I appreciate the little hands that serve as my child socializers. They don’t seem to mind helping out!

Are these puppies raised around cats?

No, they are not. Many of my placed puppies now live in homes with cats and get along fabulously.

Are the puppies fully crate trained when they go to their new homes?

No. While I do introduce all my puppies to the crate in the weeks leading up to adoption day, they are not fully crate trained. Nighttime crate training will be the responsibility of the new owner.

Do you start house training the puppies?

Yes, I start. From 4 weeks old, my puppies are trained to use a faux grass turf as their potty area. This is to encourage potty training, and to make the transition to go outside to the real grass easier.

Are Miniature Bernese hypoallergenic?

No, they are not. Mini Bernese have a double coat, which means that they do moderately shed.
